LET ME HEAR YOUR VOICE; #0.1
a 365 day journey to one million words.

{who am I?}
Yo, I'm Kristina. Other names I'll answer to include (but are not limited to): Kiz, Tina, Tatsuya and Gareth. I'm 17, British, a former "gangster" and am currently unemployed. I mostly write romance and prefer writing character-driven stories to plot-driven, which leads to my interest in working on psychological horror/thrillers. Outside of writing my main interests are music [last.fm]and terrorising the neighbours.

{why am I here?}
In this thread I'll track my progress to the 1kk, starting from November 1st 2009. In here you'll find rambling, ranting, cheering and (most likely) thousands of spelling and grammar errors on a weekly (minimum) basis.

we won't stop movin', movin', movin'.

Week #1 Word Count: - 52,055 / 19,180.
Week #1 Projects: - Prince Charming.

First update and I'm half a week late with it, great start, eh? I'll be updating this thread every Saturday, excluding June the 19th.

I wrote everyday from the 1st - 6th November, amassing a total of 52k. Since then I haven't written a single word. Been ill, and my time has been divided between hanging my head over the toilet and laying along the sofa watching television. Not very exciting, but I've been getting a lot of new ideas inspired by random dialogue in shows. I love how just a couple of words can inspire an entire plot that in the end seems no way related to what originally inspired it.

All words so far have gone onto my first project for Milwordy: Prince Charming, a romance/mystery novel. It has been stuck at chapter 19 (of 28) since the 6th. When I'm feeling up to I'll start writing on it again, but I'm not going to push myself right now.

I've also got a novel in (mental-)planning stages, as well as both Drinking Mirrors and Love Game fully planned out (more detail will come when I actually get onto it). It has no title yet, but is set in a dystopian society in approx. 2050 where the government is trying to eradicate homosexuality. So far I've done very little research on it - but just looking down a few webpages with relevant information has shown me that this project is going to require more work than most of my novel's to make it seem at least somewhat realistic. On top of that, there are two different ways I want to deal with it - which may work better to be split into two different novels with differing casts but featured in the same city.

That's all for now. Hopefully week #2's update will be less vague.

this week's title credit: Big Bang - La la la.

I go crazy, but now I am tired.

Week #2 Word Count: - 57,625 / 38,360.
Week #2 Projects: - Prince Charming.

Following the trend, the second update is also late. Only by a day this time.

I managed to write a total of 5,570 words on Prince Charming this week. I'd feel better about this if it hadn't of all been written in one sitting over 10pm-1am one night this week. Unfortunately, a few hours after completing that my health went downhill again, just when I thought I was starting to get over whatever this is. Damn Friday 13th. I ended up spending the morning in the doctor's office, and I'm not sure what's worse - the symptoms or the side effects of the medication. Needless to say, I'm glad for the buffer I built up during week one, as I'm feeling too sore/tired to write now. I'm actually lying down to write this update.

I'm up to chapter 21 (of 28) in Prince Charming now, and am really enjoying it. I really wish I could work on it more than I am at present, and it's definitely the top of my list of projects to finish as soon as I'm feeling well enough to continue writing.

Hopefully there will actually be something interesting to talk about in next week's update.

this week's title credit: SHINee - Replay.

don't be afraid because you were left alone.

Week #3 Word Count: - 61,094 / 57,540.
Week #3 Projects: - Prince Charming.

The third update is actually on time. Be shocked.

I've not written much this week, but at least it's a start. I've started feeling a lot better, and have been managing to put in a little work everyday towards Prince Charming. I get the feeling I'll be working hard from now on to try and meet the goal everyday now that my health is improving again. Maybe it's best that this happened at the start of my year, not towards the end.

I'm currently working on chapter 22 (of 27) of Prince Charming, which is actually 22 and 23. I ended up merging them because chapter 22 only reaches 1,300 words alone and the next would be relatively short too. The others reach on average 3,000 words each so putting them together will help the flow.

I also started working on my dystopian project last night. I've briefly written biography's of six of the thirteen main characters, and will provide more information about the project next week.

I do want to stay and type but my parents are waiting on me to watch a film with them: The House Bunny. Will give a lot of information next week.

this week's title credit: DBSK - Love in the Ice.

honestly, I sometimes waver, but don't worry it doesn't go farther.

Week #4 Word Count: - 79,101 / 76,720.
Week #4 Projects: - Prince Charming; Quang Academy.

The fourth update is also on time, wow. Two out of four isn't bad from a procrastinator, right? This means I meet the deadlines 50% of the time - that's higher than my fifth year art class attendance. I've managed to meet the target this week, but I've been feeling sick in the evenings most of this week. It definitely puts a dent in my word count, but I'm trying my best to work through it.

Prince Charming is going well, and I'm now working on chapter 26 (of 27). I was hoping to get it finished today, but my stomach started aching after dinner. So I put my laptop down and watched the "X Factor" to relax. Then by the time the pain cleared up "I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!" came on. I adore Ant and Dec, so naturally, no writing commenced. I plan to return to it after I finish writing up this week's update. So right now the second last scene has just begun, in which my main character, Christian, confronts the recently revealed antagonist after saving the girl (who he just so happened to turn down when she declared her love for him - oh, don't you just love reverse Cinderella stories?). The final scene involves wrecking a lovey-dovey romantic moment with grumpy little brother's and their best friend from university. So much for my romance novel.

So, that dystopian novel I had in the works? After trying to iron out the plot enough so that I know roughly where I'm going, I've decided that it falls better under social science fiction. Sounds a bit presumptuous, really, but for now it's the only thing I can really make fit. This project -- temporarily named Quang Academy -- is the exploration of a society of homosexuals resisting the minds trying to warp them so that they're "politically correct". The protagonist, Jack Choi, gets sent to the campus of Quang Academy, Lake Summertree, after his sister Jane can't contain her overwhelming need to gossip about what she saw in the science labs after school. Unlucky Jack gets thrown into a dorm with twelve other boy's - also known as the hopeless cases that will be sent into adult rehabilitation programs upon graduation. They're reluctant to change, and instead of conforming to meet the elders desires they instead try to fight against the people boxing them in. In their reluctance and rule-bending (aka. sneaking off campus for drugs, alcohol and sex), one of the particularly sleazy boy manages to contract an STI and all havoc breaks lose. It's just a project I think I can work through easily in January. Doubt I'll be sharing this one with anyone, mind - I guess it's purely for my own personal enjoyment.

The action plan for the coming week is:

  • Finish Prince Charming;
  • Start Love Game;
  • Plan Quang Academy.

Now to return to Christian; Yasu; a baffled doorman; and the antagonist fighting in front a group of passed out drunkards.

this week's title credit: G-Dragon - Look Only At Me (Part 2).

LET ME HEAR YOUR VOICE; #5
your eyes are the size of the moon.

Week #5 Word Count: - 95,152 / 95,900.
Week #5 Projects: - Love Game; Prince Charming; Tokyo Tea; Summer's Gone; Wrong Number.

If you take a look up at my "Week #5 Projects" you will realise that this update could get complicated; so I'll try and keep this as straight forward as possible and tackle each project one at a time. Wish my mind would work in the same way when it comes to writing fiction. If it did then I wouldn't be in this mess.

I'll start at the beginning. So, 2am last Sunday I completed my first project of milwordy — Prince Charming — at 83,074 words. I beat my record time of two months and three days in completing a project, with this one coming in at just twenty-nine days. It kind of annoys me when I realise that if it wasn't for getting ill I could have it finished in a much shorter time, but there's no point in complaining now. Anyway, I'm pleased to have it finished. Although it now feels a little weird when I open a word document and the completely selfish Christian Wilford isn't waiting for me so he can make a few more demands. He was anything but a charmer, that one.

With Prince Charming behind me, I then moved on to tackling my second project of the year that same day: Love Game. This novel was my back-up idea for November, and I was looking forward to starting it. But so far it's gotten off to a really slow start and currently sits at just 1,043 words. This is one of three projects I've purposefully selected that I want to have completed by New Year.

My energies at the start of the week were focused on the second of the three novels I wanted to have finished by January: Tokyo Tea. It's a philosophical romance novel about four lonely men in one city without a place to stay on Christmas Eve. It's a ticking time bomb style novel that spans roughly eight hours. It only needed an additional 7,000 words from where I left it off in October to reach the end, so I managed to get it finished by dinnertime on Tuesday. This is also one of three projects I plan to complete in December.

The third novel I want to finish this December is Summer's Gone: it's a psychological thriller novel I started on May 31st this year. It's a story of suicide, insanity and alcoholism where a man is stuck two years in the past after his partner's death. This is my current work in progress, and I plan to finish this first before continuing on with Love Game. I'm currently on chapter 13 (of 21), and I hope to have this finished before next weekend.

Finally, the last of the projects I've been working on this week is new to my list: Wrong Number. This is only in the planning stages at the moment but the idea has been in my head for a while now. It's a YA romance about a schoolgirl being stalked via text messaging; the (one-sided?) love that soon blossoms from this; and then the consequences once she finally meets the boy behind the alias "Hero". This idea is currently at war with Quang Academy over which will be the first to be written in the New Year. Right now I'm not sure which will win.

So, in short, I made three of the goals I set myself at the end of last week's update. I finished Prince Charming and started Love Game, but I didn't get any planning for Quang Academy done over the course of this week. But with "I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!" over for another year as of last night, my evenings will now be more free for writing, huzzah!

My goals for next week are:

  • Finish Summer's Gone;
  • Plan Quang Academy;
  • Plan Wrong Number.

Now to watch "The X Factor" with my mother. It's Michael Jackson week, and I adore him. After that I'll get to work on finishing chapter 13 of Summer's Gone.

this week's title credit: Panic at the Disco - Nine in the Afternoon.

LET ME HEAR YOUR VOICE; #6
take a seat and catch your breath.

Week #6 Word Count: - 102,312 / 115,080.
Week #6 Projects: - Summer's Gone; Wrong Number.

This week has been a bit of a failure. I'm currently 13k behind, and have only written approximately 9,000 words this week. Instead I've spent the time procrastinating by watching the first series of "Hana Yori Dango" [Boys Over Flowers]; fixing a problem with The Sims 3 that EA failed to give a solution for (reminds me that I promised to write up a guide on how to fix it on the UK community boards, yikes); celebrating my best friend's birthday; Christmas shopping for the friends and parents (possibly the only year I've physically gone out and done it, rather than ordering on-line); and playing TS3 non-stop for three days.

All words I've written this week were on Summer's Gone, which is *still* incomplete. This week I wrote the scene I was most looking forward to in this novella, which is when the protagonist is shown the grave of his boyfriend who has been dead (against the MC's knowledge) for two years. I'm now going into the final arc of the story and am up to chapter 15 (of 21), and I'm sort of hesitant to write it. But at the same time I realise it's going to be longer than I first expected. I estimated the length at 35k — it's already at 37,213 words with six and a half chapters still left to write. My writing style since first beginning it on May 31st has completely changed, and a result of this seems to be longer scenes/chapters. The first half of this story will need a complete re-write someday.

As well as a little writing this week I also managed to get a small amount of planning done on Wrong Number. It is only a couple of paragraphs, mind, but it's better than nothing. I'm kind of stumped with the plot at the moment, but I'm sure I'll work out it later. There's still over three weeks left to finish the outline, after all. I'm kind of annoyed with myself over the fact that as well as not getting much work done on Wrong Number, I also didn't get any planning done on Quang Academy whatsoever. At the moment I'm still unsure as to which novel I'll be working on first in the New Year; but I plan to tackle both in January.

Even though I'm behind I don't plan to let this faze me. My aims for the coming week are the same as Week #5's goals:

  • Finish Summer's Gone;
  • Plan Quang Academy;
  • Plan Wrong Number.

Now to return to watching War of the Worlds 2: The Next Wave with my parents. I'm finding it extremely dull — why is this film number one on Zone Horror's best six horror films!? Normally a movie isn't quite boring enough to make me want to update a thread rather watching it.

this week's title credit: Nightmare of You - The Days Go By Oh So Slow.
